Prayer’s mom Rainier is out of one of my absolute favorite does, but she’s never given me a girl to keep. Rainier’s sire gave us some really gorgeous goats, but we’ve had issues with his daughters losing their babies often. I decided to give it one last try, and pull her babies at birth to see if we had better luck. Amazingly, she gave us triplet girls. They were all given replacement colostrum at birth, and bottle raised 100%, and all 3 thrived. The only guess we have, is that something in the milk she is providing is missing, so they are not able to thrive on it. Rainier’s half sister has had a lot of losses as well, but a couple daughters survived, and had no issues with losses, so I’m very hopeful that Prayer will be the same and I can maintain the genetic excellence, without the heartache.
