GraniteAcres MS Ginger x Gaelic Roots CW Lucky Strike *B

DOB: April 4, 2025
1 buckling

Ginger decided she wanted to be first to kid for the second year in a row. She only had the one boy, so he is nice and big, and she has way more milk than he needs. Delivery was nice and easy, which is a great way to start off kidding season.

GraniteAcres WB Rowan Blnchrd x Rakkasan Ranch APA Cluster *B

DOB: April 6, 2025
Twins – 1 girl, 1 boy

Rowan belongs to my son, and has been his primary show doe for years. But, she’s getting older, so for the past 3 years he wanted to keep a daughter from her, and he finally got one. I found her in early labor first thing in the morning, and we watched her slowly progress all day. When she finally was ready to push, it was a rough delivery, with the buckling born first, having already pooped in the sack, so we’re watching for issues that can cause. Then the girl was all rolled up in a ball, which required a lot of work going in to get her straightened out and delivered. Rowan was pretty shocky, and decided at first she had no interest in being a mom. The little girl ended up being adopted by Lahaina who kidded soon after, and Rowan after a couple days has finally decided to take care of the boy without being forced.

GraniteAcres RM Lahaina 3*M x Gaelic Roots CW Lucky Strike *B

DOB: April 6, 2025
Twins – 2 girls

While we were watching Rowan all day, Lahaina was being noisy, but had no other real obvious signs of being in labor. We kept an eye on her, but let her hang out in the pasture rather than locking her up immediately. Once we were done with Rowan, we moved Lahaina to the barn. About 30 minutes later I was walking out to check on everybody, and heard a yell that every goat breeder recognizes, and got there in time to see her finish popping the first baby out. Baby #2 came out about 3 minutes later, and Lahaina immediately stood up to start taking care of her babies. She’s a fabulous mom, and has plenty of milk to take care of her two big girls, as well as Rowan’s girl.

GraniteAcres SP Nanda Devi x Bellafire SG Guitar Hero

DOB: April 7, 2025
Twins – 2 boys

I missed this delivery while I was at work, but a friend was there, as was my daughter. The babies are actually quite tiny, so Devi had no problem popping them out. Because of how little they are, one of them needed some support to get his temperature up, and keep it up. They got him warm with a hot water bath followed by a hair dryer. Once I made it home we got the heat lamp in the barn going. I prefer not to use heat lamps, but sometimes it’s necessary until the babies are able to maintain on their own. Devi is being a great mom, like usual, and is actually helping Lahaina take care of Rowan’s girl too.

GraniteAcres PH JenLawrence 2*M x Rakkasan Ranch APA Cluster *B

DOB: April 7, 2025
Triplets – 2 girls (1 DOA), 1 boy

Jen was another long drawn out delivery, just like Rowan. In this case, all 3 babies were badly positioned, which caused labor to take longer since there wasn’t the correct pressure helping move things along. Each had to have help to get turned correctly to come out, and I think the 2nd girl actually probably would have made it if they had been born sooner. The other 2 babies are doing great though. They are big and strong, and Jen is doing great with them, despite the traumatic delivery.

GraniteAcres EC Ku’oko’a x Gaelic Roots CW Lucky Strike *B

DOB: April 7, 2025
Single – boy

“Kua” is a first freshener, with all the drama that frequently goes with it. Her baby was mostly correctly positioned, with only a little tug on one leg needed to get it straightened out, then she pushed him out on her own. But she was a screamer, and kept getting up, then dramatically flopping over. After the baby was out she just lay there, though she was willing to lick the baby when we put him in front of her. I finally had to make her get up so he could eat, then she stood with her butt in the corner staring at nothing. It took about an hour before she finally really seemed to get her thoughts together, but since then she is being a good mama.

DOB: April 9, 2024
Twins – 2 boys (1 doa)

Snickerdoodle needed some help with this delivery, and thankfully my friend who is helping was there. Both babies were trying to come out at the same time, so had to be pushed back in to get them one at a time. Unfortunately, the one that came out second had already taken a breath, and despite getting him out as fast as they could, and working to clear the fluids he inhaled, he didn’t make it. Snickerdoodle is a great mama, and the remaining little guy is growing like crazy.

Thistle x Gaelic Roots CW Lucky Strike *B

DOB: April 23, 2025
Triplets – 3 girls

Thistle is a sweet girl, except when she is getting close to delivery, then she turns feral. I had checked on her before I left for work, and figured she would be kidding that day, but probably not until about when the kids got home from school. I was really close, she started about 40 minutes before. Thankfully my friend was there checking, and once she had the first baby out, she was able to catch her and get her moved to the barn. Babies 2 and 3 came out nice and easy. Thistle is a good mama, and has plenty of milk for her babies. Baby # 1 is tiny, and her front legs were a little wonky at birth, probably from cramped quarters inside, but she is spunky and strong, and her legs are straightening over time. We’re keeping an eye on things, but she’s not having any issue keeping up with her sisters that are literally twice her size.

GraniteAcres EC Red Velvet x Rakkasan Ranch APA Cluster *B

DOB: April 23, 2025
Single – 1 girl

Velvet is an escape artist, so she stays in a smaller, more secure pen, most of the time. This means she is not front and center, though we were checking her, of course. Most of our girls this year have seemed to go longer in gestation, so I was a bit surprised while milking to get a yell that she was kidding, since she was only at day 146. Obviously we were outside when she popped out her baby, but she never made a sound. Her little girl is big and strong, but Velvet was being an absolute nightmare in the enclosed space of the barn, beating up on the other moms and babies, so they got moved to the mama/baby pasture within 24 hours, instead of after the usual week. Velvet has way more milk than her baby needs, so she started being milked immediately.

GraniteAcres EC Haleakala x Gaelic Roots CW Lucky Strike *B

DOB: April 24, 2025
Twins – 2 girls

Hallie belongs to my daughter and is much loved, so I was keeping a very close eye on her. Especially since by the time she kidded she was at day 151. I worry about babies getting too big the longer they go, and with her being a first freshener, I really didn’t want to miss it in case of problems. She ended up having a pretty textbook delivery. She stayed right with me while she was in labor, especially with Velvet tackling her any time she got very far away. The first baby was the bigger, and I ended up helping her a little just to keep her from getting too tired pushing, but she could have done it. The second baby wasn’t tiny, but was smaller, and pretty much fell out as I was still trying to clear the face of the first one. Hallie is being a terrific mom. The smaller baby took a few days to really get up and moving around. She tended to need help getting up to nurse, or she would lay there and Hallie would stand over her, but she’s finally doing better. Now, if only she would stop getting herself stuck in odd places, that I’ve never had babies get stuck before.

SG GraniteAcres WB Andromeda 2*M x Bellafire SG Guitar Hero

DOB: May 12, 2025
Single – 1 boy

Andromeda did it to me again. This was her 10th freshening, and once again she did not give me girl. The only time she has ever had girls was the year I wanted to keep a buckling from her, because I lost the sire to pneumonia a couple months before. A bit of a rough delivery for her. She was obviously in labor when I got home from work, so I got the barn prepped, since it had been cleaned, but not rebedded yet. Did the milking and feeding, then waited. Her boy was big, but not so big as to cause problems, except he was coming out head first. Both front legs were tucked back, but he had already taken a breath before we had a chance to push him back a bit to get to a leg. We ended up having no choice but to pull on his head/neck. Thankfully we were able to get him out, and he did not suffer any damage from us pulling.

GraniteAcres EC Daphnis x Bellafire SG Guitar Hero

DOB: May 13, 2025
Twins – 2 girls

Daphnis was giving only very subtle signs she might be close. I really wasn’t sure, but we moved her inside just in case. I’m so glad we did, or at least one of her babies would not have made it. I checked her around midnight, and nothing seemed to be happening. I planned to go to bed, but ended up not doing so, so decided to do one more check right before I headed to bed at 1. When I got there, she had one baby dry, and up, but the other was still laying in wet bedding, and was only about half dry, so was chilled. Because Daphnis is so new to being a mom, I didn’t feel comfortable taking the baby in the house for a bath, or she might have rejected her, so I dried her and used the heatlamp to warm her. It takes a little longer, but if they aren’t too far gone, it works. She finally warmed, and was able to eat a little, though was very lazy. I am guardedly optimistic, but think she’s going to end up a bottle baby because she’s just not fighting to eat.

GraniteAcres ID Jasmine x Bellafire SG Guitar Hero

DOB: May 13, 2025
Twins – 1 girl, 1 boy

I really needed an easy one, after being up most of the night with Daphnis, and working on 3 hours of sleep. Thankfully, Jasmine came through for me. She gave obvious signs that birth was imminent, so got moved to the barn after milking was done. I checked her at 9:45, and she was just about to kid, so I changed back to my barn clothes, and when I got back to the barn she was in the process of pushing. Baby was perfectly positioned, and came out easily, despite being a nice big girl. Jasmine cleaned her for a couple minutes, then pushed out baby number 2 while still standing. Another nice big boy, properly positioned and easily delivered. Both babies were up and eating without any assistance, and I was back in the house by 10:15. We were also very surprised to find a moonspot on the buckling, since I know Jasmine’s line does not carry them, but Hero’s breeder says he could have a hidden one.

GraniteAcres RM Mount Denali x Bellafire SG Guitar Hero

DOB: May 15, 2025
Twins – 1 girl, 1 boy

Denali was so big, we’ve been joking for the past month that you could serve a pizza off her back without it falling, so we really thought she had at least triplets. Instead she had 2 big babies. She hadn’t given a whole lot of sign she was getting close, so I didn’t have her put up in the barn, and the little girl was born in the pasture. She got moved in, and with a little assistance to reposition the head, baby number 2 came right out. All are doing very well.

GraniteAcres MB Aradia 1*M x Bellafire SG Guitar Hero

DOB: 5/22/25
Triplets – 3 boys

Aradia had a hard delivery last year, and with her age I was concerned she would struggle again this year. I needn’t have worried. She showed she is an old pro, and kidded fast and easy. I was traveling back from a goat buying trip, so the kids handled everything, and I just got the play-by-play over the phone. There was no drama, other than how fast they came. One of the babies looks like he was scrunched up during development, as his front legs are curved in at the ankle, so we pulled him to be a bottle baby and he’s a happy boy who has no trouble getting around.

GraniteAcres LS Pudding x GraniteAcres CC El Capitan *B

DOB: 5/23/25
Triplets – 2 girls (1 deceased), 1 boy

Pudding was a pretty easy delivery. She was very obvious that she was in labor, so we moved her to the barn, then took care of milking and feeding, checking in periodically to make sure all was good. She waited until we were pretty much done before getting down to business. Babies were presenting properly, and she was able to push them out easily. Unfortunately, the last baby was very small. She looked several days behind her siblings developmentally, and though she was breathing initially, it was obvious she was not going to make it, though we did our best to get her going. We held her, giving her love, until she died after a couple minutes.

GraniteAcres LS Aloha Aina x GraniteAcres CC El Capitan *B

DOB: 5/24/25
Twins – 2 boys

Moo as we call her was rather dramatic when she went into labor. We hadn’t even really been looking at her, but as we were about to leave the barn after Pudding finished kidding we heard a yell from the pasture. Everybody was eating, but Moo was standing off by herself, so we got a hold of her and discovered her ligaments were gone, so hauled her off to the barn. It took a few hours, but finally, just after midnight she delivered pretty uneventfully, though she yelled the whole time, even before she was in hard labor. She and Pudding kidded so close together that they don’t seem entirely sure which babies belong to whom, so they are co-parenting nicely.

GraniteAcres SW Phoenix x Bellafire SG Guitar Hero

DOB: 5/24/25
Twins – 1 boy, 1 girl (DOA)

We’ve had a couple rough kiddings this year, but I think this was the worst. Phoenix was pushing, but her ligaments were still somewhat intact, so her pelvis hadn’t spread as much as it needed to, and she wasn’t making any progress. There was one leg presenting, and we could feel a nose just inside. After some feeling around, we realized that it was 2 different babies, but Phoenix was so tight we couldn’t get one pushed back so they could come out. We ended up calling in a few different people, and after a lot of time and work, and a girl with tiny hands that has pulled many babies who was able to get in and rearrange, the first baby, who had been sucking on people’s fingers the whole time finally came out. Baby #2 came very quickly afterwards, and we tried for several minutes, but she never took a breath. During the whole thing, I was holding Phoenix’s head in my lap comforting her, because my big hands were no help, and my daughter was standing behind me trying to make sure I was ok too. Phoenix is a very special girl to me, and we were honestly not sure we’d be able to get the babies out, and save Phoenix, so I am so grateful to everyone who dropped what they were doing to come help. The little boy who made it took a few days to get full functionality of one of his legs, because of the amount of pulling that was done, but he is hopping around and very healthy now.

GraniteAcres ID Biscotti x Gaelic Roots CW Lucky Strike *B

DOB: 5/28/25
Twins – 2 girls

When we checked Biscotti in the evening, she was looking closer, but still had ligaments, so I figured we were looking at sometime the next day. I was right about that, but off on how much longer she had. So, she ended up kidding by herself in the pasture, probably around 6:30 am. When I went out to check on everybody at 7 before getting ready for work she had both babies out, but the 2nd was still pretty wet, so recent. Both babies were doing well, though the smaller was certainly less bouncy, and Biscotti is an excellent mother, so all seemed good. At 5 days old, though, the smaller of the babies started breathing fast, and her heart was racing. Not really any other symptoms, though she seemed a little lethargic, and we didn’t hear any crackling in her lungs, but we brought her inside and started her on a treatment regimen for pneumonia in case that’s what was going on. Unfortunately, she passed less than 12 hours later. My guess, after researching more, is that she probably had a heart defect.

GraniteAcres RC Kilauea x Bellafire SG Guitar Hero

DOB: 6/5/25
Single – 1 girl

We ended our kidding season on an uncomplicated note, and I am good with that. Kila was acting off, so I was expecting her to kid soon. I watched her for a while when I was bottle feeding babies, and she was uncomfortable, but no obvious signs of contractions. I checked her again before going to bed, and she was still just hanging out by herself, but nothing major. Still, I was not surprised when I walked out of the house in the morning to see her laying there with her new little girl. Baby is doing great, and Kila is being a very attentive mama.
